Our marvellous
cooks at Brunel 208 - many thanks girls
Brrrrrrr…… it’s
getting chilly now but don’t wrap up your
MG just yet. Check with Sue or keep an eye on www.bamgoc.co.uk
– there are more events and lunch runs to
come – let’s try and keep it going.
Talking about trying to keeping
things going, I’ve never had a year of car
troubles like it. All the V8 limp homes from runs
and then, last Sunday morning the sun was shining
(couldn’t believe it) and I thought I’d
go for a run in the TD.
It started on 2 cylinders and dumped
fuel from the front carb all over the garage floor.
Sod it! – I decided to go out in the V8 instead.
It started fine and sounded great so I put on the
shades, selected reverse and backed out………
Whoops! NO BRAKES! It was fine the week before when
I parked it – like the old fella on the Fast
Show used to say – “B----R”!
So I went to the pub. It’s
a case of “cobbler’s shoes” –
that’s my excuse anyway.
On a more cheerful note WHAT ABOUT
BRUNEL! I’ll say no more since I suspect it’s
mentioned elsewhere in this mag.
Happy MGing
Chris
EDITORIAL
WOW! Wasn’t it
good? And if you don’t know what I am talking
about, you weren’t there, so ‘Tough
Titty’ you missed a good one. Many thanks
to the team that put together a weekend that despite
all that nature threw at it still came up trumps.
Indoor camping, superb food, excellent company;
I for one had a marvellous time. Last minute changes
had the team arranging weekenders in all the available
inside accommodation, no one was outside, the ground
was waterlogged, some even arrived on water skis,
it was that wet. All the cars, and caravans, found
space in the carparks, this proved a good exercise
for finding out which car to vote for on Sunday,
now where was that winner parked?
All one heard all weekend was praise
for the Brunel Run team, from Penny and Lynne’s
so sterling effort in cooking an outstanding roast
dinner for around 80 or so people, served under
the direction of Pauline by a team of servers in
double quick time that would have deserved praise
from the most picky Major Domo, thankyou all, and
to the boys who did, without duress!! clear up and
wash everything afterward. Raffle tickets sold,
Mark the Mod DJ provided the music and lights, although
I must have missed the bit when he did his DJ ’Scratching’
It was well worth the visit from
these Northern waters, where it appears that we
had a far better summer than down with you, but
meeting and re-acquainting myself with so many MG
friends was very nice, why I even let Gerry drive
me around the Run on Saturday, which again, despite
the rain lived up to what one expects from the Brunel
Run, an interesting day out, which had us both saying
“I have not been down this road before”.
Well it’s that AGM time again,
who is ready for the scrap heap? Who is up for a
new term? Are they worth it? Well after that weekend
a resounding YES.

Well what a weekend! Brunel 2008 was truly memorable
for many reasons, the food, the company, the run,
the raffle, the venue – but mostly it proved
that in spite of nature’s best efforts BAMGOC
could still put on a mighty fine show. Members that
did not make the weekend, missed what has been described
as possibly the best Brunel Weekend ever –
please make an effort to co-ordinate your diaries
for 2009!
The thanks are many, and as I may
be in danger of omitting anyone I would just like
to highlight a couple of ‘outstanding achievers’
– Penny and Lynne, what a spread girls, fine
dining at it’s best, and much appreciated
by the assembled masses. Discussions around the
menu for 2009 have already begun!
Thanks also need to go to all of
the attendees, flood and storm deterred not one
(well hardly one!), and even those booked for camping
turned up with that true ‘Brit’ spirit
expecting to wade into the field. However, after
a frantic ring around on the Thursday Pauline and
I managed to contact everyone to say that ‘indoor’
camping had been secured for all and that mode of
transport did not need to be an MG. There was a
variety of cars, 4x4’s, pick up trucks, but
it just added to the ethos of the weekend, it made
the self judging on Sunday interesting, please note
that we found a new hybrid vehicle, a Japanese Mazda
MG, very rare I understand, viewing can be arranged
via Sue and Eric Talintyre.
The upshot was that it is the people
that count helped by of course the great venue.
BAMGOC will be presenting the cheque
to a representative from Barton Camp at 12th November
club night, a good turnout of members is expected
please!
December club night will be party
night, please see the events page and let Sue Gainey
know who is attending, friends and family are also
welcome for a small fee. Music will be courtesy
of Mark ‘Two Decks’ Neale, who managed
to get us all in party mood at Brunel, a delicious
buffet is arranged and the evening is free to all
paid up BAMGOC members.
In light of the current financial
situation it has been agreed at committee that we
should not add to the festive burden by giving Christmas
cards to fellow members, and in this respect Pauline
the IT whiz, will be setting up a Christmas Greetings
page on the BAMGOC website. It all looks much more
fun than writing cards!
Hélène
- and Pauline of course!
A plea
from your Editor:
It takes all of two minutes to stop and take a picture;
how many of you now own a digital camera? How many
of you own a computer? It would be lovely to feature
some members cars being used as they should each month.
It is so simple to email them, just say who its from
and where it was taken, if you wish to write more
we will be more than pleased. You have a choice of
emails to use, just be sure to use one. EMAIL HERE
OR
HERE
ALSO: Please send articles for inclusion in the magazine
in a plain format with any photos separate. This avoids
work for Trevor in unravelling it all to prepare it
for printing - thankyou.
BAMGOC Members Car Upload
Form
Go on, I can see you thinking, what on earth is
that? Well it’s a form you will find HERE.
Our most able Web ‘mistress’, she has
a whip, ask Chris, and also our co secretary, keeps
the site fully up-to-date and full of interesting
things to keep you amused. One of which, for the
very few of you who have noticed, is our members
car section, the chance for you to dig out that
superb shot of your car on the Brunel/Hereford/Exeter/London
to Brighton Rally, and upload it. Write a few words,
the form is easily understood, both I and Gerry
have managed it, and now, using a tyre lever, has
John Phillips, so come on Guys and Galls, kick the
kids off the computer and get UPLOADING or email
your submissions to Trevor HERE.
